One of the most common questions that I hear is “what is the difference between a blog and a website?” A website is a great marketing tool, however it is a static site that doesn’t change very often. Websites typically contain pages that include information about your services, your bio, how to contact you, and maybe a few customer testimonials. While these pages are definitely important, they don’t get updated very often so your viewers have no reason to return to your website often. On the other hand, a blog is typically updated on a consistent schedule; such as every day, once a week, or bi-monthly. A blog post usually contains several paragraphs about a topic that you are knowledgeable about and want to share with your readers. Since your blog is updated on a regular basis, it attracts more viewers than a standard website would, since your audience is continually returning to read your new posts.

How Blogging Will Bring You More Leads

A blog is your personal space on the internet to share your commercial real estate market knowledge and expertise. Since you will be writing posts that your potential clients would be interested in reading, a blog offers you the opportunity to build credibility, give your brand a voice, and attract new leads all at the same time. Think about it; when someone looks online for a commercial real estate agent in your city, with your specialization, will they find you or your competitors? If you’re not showing up in the search results, blogging can help you get there. Your blog will help you generate new leads organically, simply by having a website and a blog that you update on a consistent basis.

A Low-Cost Marketing Strategy

I truly believe that blogging is the most cost effective form of advertising there is. Yes, I know that’s a pretty bold statement so let me explain. Your web hosting and domain will cost you about $100 per year, and that’s all you need to get up and running. Sure, you could hire a web designer, a professional blogger, and pay for all sort of extras (such as stock photos, premium templates, etc.). However, if you choose to set up your own blog, write your own posts, and share them on your social media pages, your annual cost is next to nothing. What other form of advertising will cost so little, yet provide you with such a high ROI? There isn’t one. While I am still a huge advocate for traditional forms of marketing, I stand firm in my belief that blogging is an essential addition to your marketing strategy.
