When it comes to social media, consistency is key. Every industry – including commercial real estate – is benefiting from using social media to reach their ideal audience and build their brand. However, don’t just rely on your companies marketing department to handle the social media, since they are highlighting the entire company – not you specifically.

As a commercial real estate professional, you want to have your own social media pages that highlight your expertise and make it easy for potential clients to contact you. Use this social media checklist to make sure you’re on the right track to market your business as effectively as possible.

Pick Your Platforms

Use at least 2-3 different social media platforms. For commercial real estate, the most popular are LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. Of course, you can also have Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Snapchat if you have the time to fully commit to all of those platforms. If you’re new to using social media for business purposes, I suggest that you start with two platforms and add more as you feel inclined to do so.

Be Consistent

On each platform, it’s best to use the same profile photo, name, and short bio. You want to keep this basic information consistent from platform to platform, so if you update your photo on one site you should update it on the others as well. You don’t want a potential customer to guess if they’ve found the right person, and consistency helps your overall brand image. Use a professional headshot photo and include your business contact information.

Quality over Quantity

Share content that is relevant to your audience and shows your expertise. You may want to feature local market news, current listings, interesting facts about your market, networking or conference information, customer reviews, etc. You want to post a variety of content to engage with the highest number of relevant users. You can also ask questions to try to provoke interaction with your followers and share other related content (just make sure to give proper credit to the original poster).

Consistency and authenticity are the keys to successful social media marketing efforts. Be consistent with your posting schedule. Can you commit to posting once per day, Monday through Friday? I like to focus on quality over quantity; posting high quality content less often is a much better strategy than posting low quality content more frequently. Speaking of quality, don’t get too caught up in the number of followers you have. The number doesn’t really matter! It’s better to have 100 engaged followers, who you could turn into clients, than 1000 followers who aren’t interested in your services.
