How To Set Your Work Day Up For Success

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but why do some people accomplish more in that time period than others? If you’re wanting to stay ahead of your commercial real estate competition, use these productivity tips to set up your day for success:

Get Enough Sleep

I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times, but sleep is essential to your well-being and productivity. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t have the energy to perform at your best. I highly recommend going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, so your body gets used to your schedule. Wind down each evening by reading a chapter or two – and stay away from your phone or computer for at least an hour before bed. Checking emails and social media will only keep you awake longer.

Enjoy Quiet Time

I speak with a lot of commercial real estate brokers, and many of the most successful ones carve out an hour or so of quiet time each morning. Whether it’s at the office, or at your home, having a quiet area where you can focus for the first hour of the day is the perfect way to set up your day for success. During this time frame you can review current deals, respond to emails, or work on priority tasks. If you can extend your quiet time to more than one hour, that’s even better! Try to find a place that’s away from distractions so you can make the most of your time.

Prioritize Your To-Do List

Keeping a running to-do list is an important element to being organized and productive. No matter how you keep track of your to-do list, the key is to break it down by priority. For me, I have due dates next to each task on my to-do list, and I like to make a smaller list of the items that I can realistically accomplish for each day. I’ve found that it’s best to complete the quick, simple tasks first because it gives me momentum – and who doesn’t like checking items off their to-do list? Check off the easy tasks first, them sort your tasks by priority and you’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish.

Prepare For Tomorrow

At the end of each workday, set aside a few minutes to make a game plan for tomorrow. Make sure you’re aware of any meetings or property showings that are on your calendar so you can plan your office time around them. Then, make your to-do list for the day. If you have your schedule planned out ahead of time, it’s easier to be productive with your time since you can jump right in and get to work.
