How CRE Professionals Can Finish 2020 Strong

This year may not have turned out how you originally anticipated, but don’t write off the entire year yet. As we enter into the final few months of 2020, now is the time to be intentional about reaching your goals. Here are five ways that CRE professionals can finish 2020 strong:

Evaluate Your Goals

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Take some time this week to evaluate your goals. Did you set financial or personal goals at the beginning of the year? If so, are you on track to accomplish those goals or were they dramatically impacted by the current pandemic? Take a hard look at your goals to evaluate your current progress, and make adjustments as necessary. Can you set a new goal to lease a specific amount of commercial properties? Maybe a new goal to have your total sales volume hit a specific number? Better yet, can you focus on helping a specific number of new clients? Instead of focusing mainly on a financial number, shift your focus to helping as many people as you can. It’s been a challenging year for almost everyone, but your commercial real estate services can add value to those who may need it most.

Know Your Market

As a CRE professional, knowing your local market is a huge part of your job. However, COVID-19 has impacted different states, counties, and even different cities in various ways. Due to varying local mandates and regulations, it’s essential that you understand how each business and product type are uniquely being affected. Are salons and gyms allowed to be open in your area? Are retail centers open normally or with limited capacity? Have office workers returned to the office or are most people working remotely from home? Have students returned to the classroom or are they learning virtually? The more you understand your local market, the more you will be able to help your clients who will be relying on your expertise.

Be Proactive

Now is not the time to sit back and wait for your phone to ring. Instead, proactively follow up with past clients and new leads. Your connections will appreciate a phone call from you to simply check on them and see how their business has been impacted. Knowing that we’re all in this together provides a sense of community, and understanding any struggles that your connections may be facing will allow you to help them find a solution. Some of your past clients may be looking for additional commercial space, while others may be looking to downsize or sublease their space. Be proactive so you stay on top of their minds as they need your CRE services.

Focus On Your Business

It’s always a good idea to focus on growing your own business. Can you improve your marketing strategy or accounting practices? Is it time for you to hire a new assistant or additional CRE agents to grow your team? Have you held a team – or office – meeting lately to check in with your employees to make sure you’re all reaching toward the same goals? There is always room for improvement; finish 2020 off by focusing on the areas of your business that could use the most improvement. From a marketing standpoint, updating your website, social media, and email marketing strategy is a good place to start since these items are publicly promoting your brand.

Get Organized

To finish off 2020 strong, focus on utilizing your commercial real estate CRM software. Make sure your contacts, properties, and deals are up to date. Add new tasks so you’re reminded of items you need to do, and people you need to follow up with. A great CRM can help you organize your CRE business and boost your productivity, but it’s only as good as the information that you put into your database.
