An Interview With ClientLook User, Drew McDaniel
Drew McDaniel has over 9 years of experience as a commercial real estate broker in the Greater Nashville area. He specializes in representing occupiers of office properties by solving their commercial real estate requirements for long term success on a National and Local level. Prior to Cherry & Associates, Drew worked for 8 years with two of the largest international commercial real estate firms in Landlord & Tenant Representation. Over that span, he successfully performed on over 3 million square feet of listing assignments and completed more than 60 million in leasing and sales transactions.

Can you tell me a little bit about your business? What do you specialize in and what does your day to day schedule look like?
Drew: We specialize exclusively in representing companies that occupy office space; whether they are leasing or purchasing the property. Since the majority of brokers represent the landlords, we think it’s necessary for the occupants to have representation that is non-conflicted and always in their best interest. My day to day schedule varies, but I typically reserve the morning for doing office work and sending out RFP’s and proposals to clients, I try to schedule most meetings for in the afternoon, and I make most of my calls toward the end of the day.
When did you first start using ClientLook and how easy was it to get your data converted into ClientLook?
Drew: We started using ClientLook in February 2018, and the on-boarding process was fairly easy. I cleaned up and exported a CSV file and sent it over to Nathan and he did a great job with the upload.
Why did you choose ClientLook and what problems has it solved for you?
Drew: Prior to joining Cherry and Associates, I worked with two international CRE firms. I was involved in the decision process of one of those firms to start using a different CRM, but not as many people utilized it as I had originally hoped because it was too difficult to use. People tend to get caught up in all of the details and they forget that a CRM is supposed to help you save time and be more organized. Other CRM’s are so complicated that you spend too much time organizing the data and you’re left with not enough time to go out and win business.
I believe that a CRM needs to flow with my daily needs and how my mind works in regards to running my commercial real estate business. I enjoy ClientLook so much because it’s extremely simple and you can use it according to how your specific daily operations work. With ClientLook, I can easily keep track of my free-flowing ideas, and I can also track new opportunities and the deals associated with those opportunities. It’s easy to track everything from the first meeting with a potential client all the way to the time you close the deal.
Tell me about your overall experience with ClientLook.
Drew: My experience with ClientLook has been great. I have a shared account with everyone on our team, so the collaboration has been a great feature for us. There are many brokers out there who don’t want to openly share information within their office, but we have bought into that concept and allow each other to see everything. It makes it so much easier when I am out prospecting that I can look up a property and see if someone on my team has already been in contact with them and what the last communication was. For example, I was going to stop into an attorney’s office that is nearby, so I checked out that property within ClientLook and realized that my team member had recently sent them a marketing letter. When I spoke with the contact at the attorney’s office, I was able to reference that letter and have a smoother conversation with the prospective client.
What CRM solution were you using previously?
Drew: With my previous companies, we used APTO , REApps, and ACTS but they were too cumbersome, complicated, and time-consuming to use. When I left my previous firm I didn’t have a CRM anymore so I did my own research and ClientLook was the best choice.
What features do you like the most about ClientLook?
Drew: I know this sounds simple, but I like being about to easily add updates to contact, properties, and deals. Those updates are important when looking back to see the status or the history of a person or a transaction. I also really like the iPhone app. When I walk into a building I can simply add the notes while I’m there without having to carry anything other than my phone with me. I use the app on a daily basis!
I also like that I can customize the deals in a way that works for how I run my business. I use the deals to organize my prospects and create prospect lists. That’s not necessarily what this feature was intended for, but I use it in a way that works best for me. With other CRM’s that I have used in the past, it’s hard to customize the data fields, and ClientLook makes it easy for me to do so.
I also just started using the Virtual Assistant a few weeks ago, and it’s working out well for me! The VA’s are fast to make the updates that I request, and I receive an email usually the same day or early the next morning, to let me know that my request has been completed. It’s a nice time-saving feature.
Another great feature is the ability to BCC my emails and a copy of that email is automatically stored to that contact or property within ClientLook. This is essential when I email an attachment or something important, so I can find it quickly in the future.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking for a CRM?
Drew: I would tell the person to think through the steps of their workflow process from a prospecting stand point, then think about what CRM would help you the most with your workflow. It should be easy to use and easy to customize to suit your specific needs – just like ClientLook is.
How would you describe your overall experience with the ClientLook team?
Drew: The ClientLook team really believes in their product, they are very cordial, and respond quickly. I want to give a shout out to Greg; he has been extremely helpful! We can easily set up a call with him to discuss any goals that we want to accomplish, any questions that we have, or any little bump in the road that we come across, and he always has a great resolution for us.
