An Interview With ClientLook “New To Business” User, Carrick Young
Carrick Young is an Associate Broker at Cushman & Wakefield in San Jose, California where he is focused upon the leasing of office and R&D product for corporate tenants. He works on a team that covers all aspects of a company’s workplace strategy to develop, locate and financially execute their occupancy strategies to support and compliment their clients’ business goals.
As a newly licensed commercial real estate professional, he is part of our “New To Business” program to kick off his career on the right track by utilizing ClientLook CRM.
Hear how Carrick is using ClientLook commercial real estate software to build his new business:
What do you specialize in and what does your day to day schedule look like?
Carrick: Currently, 95% of my business is office tenant-rep work. Since I am fairly new to the commercial real estate industry, I spend most of the day prospecting, making calls, reaching out to potential clients, and working on existing deals. I have been in the business for exactly one year, and prior to that I was an intern at Cushman & Wakefield.
Why did you choose ClientLook to help build your new business?
Carrick: The broker that I was working with used ClientLook, so by default I started using it as well. However, I did look into Salesforce and it was too robust and overwhelming. I wanted to check out a few different CRM’s to make sure I was using the one that best suit my needs, and ClientLook works the best for me.
How easy was it to get started with ClientLook?
Carrick: When I first started in commercial real estate, I was fresh out of college and didn’t have many contacts. Getting up and running with ClientLook was very easy for me, and I was able to do everything manually. We set up a shared account with the guy that I work with, and now I have started utilizing the Virtual Assistant which is very helpful and a big time saver!
Looking back, I have to laugh at the amount of time and effort that I wasted before I started fully utilizing ClientLook. When I first started in the business I was logging all of my notes, contacts, and information in notebooks. That’s not a sustainable practice because you end up with stacks of notebooks and it takes forever to look through them to find the information you need. ClientLook is a much better use of my time.
What features of ClientLook have been most impactful to you so far?
Carrick: The Virtual Assistant is the biggest feature that I use. The other feature is being able to track the different people I’m talking to. I like that I can BCC all of my emails and have them filed under each contact, and I can easily log all of my meetings, details, and information. It helps me keep track of everything so no detail gets forgotten. The tasks and events are where I can make a note to follow up with someone at a certain time.
How has your overall experience been with the ClientLook team?
Carrick: It’s been great! I have worked with Nathan Hall the most and he’s awesome! Any problems or questions that I have, he always has the answer and is very responsive. He even took the time to record a video of his screen and send it to me, which was very helpful. I like that the team at ClientLook is so responsive, and it’s nice to have a main point of contact that I can always reach out to.
What would you tell other brokers who are looking for a CRM to launch their CRE careers?
Carrick: Having a CRM is necessary for your commercial real estate business. It will be beneficial to you if you jump in and start using it and feel comfortable with the system. When you’re looking at various CRM’s out there, think about your business activities and choose a CRM that aligns with how you work and run your business. A CRM should help you become more organized and productive with your time.
